Painting in Oil or Pastel

This class is designed for students with some drawing and painting experience who wish to pursue a realistic approach.  Students gather visual references from their own photographs. Emphasis is on planning, composition, and exploring a photograph for information, then understanding when to simplify or expand the image. Class time includes individual instruction and group critiques. Classes are held at the Art League School.

Gouache for Field Studies and More 

Learn to use gouache (opaque watercolor) for plein air studies and finished paintings.  This portable medium may be worked from dark to light  and is ideal for painters who love the flexibility of oil and pastel. Class will be held at the Art League School.

August 4-8 and August 11-15, 2008
A Week in the Indiana Countryside $485.
Spend a week painting on location in and around the town of Kewanna, IN and the surrounding countryside.  Each class is limited to five to maximize individual attention and flexibility. Accommodations are available nearby and include breakfast (rates available on request.) Lunch and dinner are provided at Diane's house. While each workshop begins on Monday, it would be best to arrive on Sunday, so you will be ready to start painting Monday morning.
